Page Aim It is hoped that this feature illustrates how areas can bring together information about its sustainability, participation and community activities – and the people involved in them. It is to include details of all subregional sustainability work, relevant council, LSP and third sector events. This Local What's On will also include details of funding application opportunities and deadlines, council grants and other resources available through areas' Sustainable Community Strategies. Outline Contents While the dates posted here focus on the present quarter, in due course a more comprehensive calendar of past and future events will be found in the Documents Store.

regular activities British Trust for Conservation Volunteers Activities are usually organised every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday across Coventry and Warwickshire. BTCV have plenty of different opportunities for those who want to help maintain the quality of our local environment, protect and enhance the landscape and wildlife, and improve access to the countryside. Activities include:
Café Scientifique Although not an organisation working on sustainability concerns, Cafe Scientifique meetings often feature relevant themes. Local members meet on the third Monday of every month at St Patrick's Irish Club, Riverside Walk, off Adelaide Road, Leamington Spa.
Canalside Community Food Members meet up to work together on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
Coventry Community Empowerment Network Coventry CEN brings community groups together to learn from each other, share information and influence decision-makers. It organises a wide variety of events to bring a diverse range of people together to provide information and respond to issues affecting Coventry’s communities: Conferences. Past conferences have created the framework for Coventry CEN, defined its aims and objectives, consulted on Coventry's SCS and looked at various community issues, such as how to involve young people more Information Fairs. Often working in partnership with other organisations, CEN organises Information Fairs to provide presentations, demonstrations and opportunities to help members get involved in local, regional and national events. Single Issue Workshops. From time to time CEN holds workshops which focus on specific issues. These bring decision-makers together with Network members interested in the same issues. Training Events. CEN organises training events on such themes as community representation, workshop facilitation and environmental and intergenerational matters. Ward Forums. Ward forums bring together residents, council members and staff, police and VCOs to discuss issues affecting neighbourhoods.
Coventry Cycle Centre The Centre is open on Tuesdays 10.00 to 16.30, and 17.30 to 19.30. Also on every other Saturday from 10.00 to 12.00. It’s hoped that opening times will be expanded in due course, but if customers would like to arrange a private appointment or have more information about the bikes in stock they can phone or check online.
cycling groups Although not working to a broad sustainability agenda, cycling groups are involved in campaigning for the improvement of cycling conditions, and therefore better integrated transport provisions. For full details of their activities see their respective websites. CTC is a national organisation with groups across the subregion; Coventry members ride on Sundays and Wednesdays and organise holiday breaks.
Cycleways is an autonomous local group whose members usually meet monthly at Cafe Rouge in Leamington, although there may be additional meetings arranged during the year.
Cyclic is another Coventry group. Their website includes details of various campaigns members are organizing to improve conditions for local cyclists.
Earth Spirit Members meet monthly – usually on Wednesdays at Coventry’s Old Windmill – to organise various events through the year.

Second Saturday of the month in Abbey End between 09.00 and 14.00. Leamington Spa. Fourth Saturday of the month in the Pump Room Gardens between 09.00 and 14.00. Rugby. Second and last Thursday of the month by the Clock Tower between 09.00 and 14.00. Stratford-upon-Avon. First and third Saturday of the month between 09.00 and 14.00. The town’s Friday market dates back 800 years. Warwick. Third Friday of the month in Market Square between 09.00 and 14.00.
Friends of the Earth Coventry Friends of the Earth meet monthly at Coventry's Council House.
Leamington and Warwick Friends of the Earth meet monthly. Nuneaton Friends of the Earth Tuesday meetings are at The Crown near Nuneaton's railway station. Wednesday meetings take place at the United Reform Church by Nuneaton's town hall.
Rugby Friends of the Earth meet on the second Wednesday of each month at the Friends Meeting House in Regent Place.

Liberating Words Liberating Words is a monthly support group for people who want to change the world through the written word. Anyone who writes, or would like to write, poetry prose or songs can do so in a fun, friendly and supportive atmosphere.
locality forums Warwickshire’s locality forums meet throughout the year. Anyone wishing to raise concerns affecting their locality can attend. Details of meetings can be obtained from the given contact phone numbers and website pages. North Warwickshire. In North Warwickshire these are called Area Forums. The borough is divided into four areas – north, south, east and west – and each Forum meets on a quarterly basis to discuss public service provisions.
Nuneaton and Bedworth. In Nuneaton and Bedworth there are seven locality forums. Abbey and Wem Brook; Arbury and Stockingford; Camp Hill and Galley Common; Weddington and St Nicolas; Whitestone and Bulkington; Bede and Poplar; Bedworth North and West.
Rugby. There are six forums covering the Rugby borough area. Brownsover, Benn & Newbold; Dunchurch Division; Earl Craven; Eastlands & Hillmorton; Fosse; Rugby Town West.
Stratford-upon-Avon. There are six forums. These are open public meetings that take place 4 times a year at a variety of community venues in the six localities, usually on a weekday evening. For more information about what's happened in the past and what's coming up in the future get in touch with Stratford Area Team: These serve: Alcester / Bidford; Henley / Studley; Southam / Feldon; Wellesbourne / Kineton; Stour / Shipston; Stratford-upon-Avon.
Warwick District. There are seven in Warwick district. These are: Whitnash, Rural East; North Leamington; South Leamington; Kenilworth; Rural West; Warwick,
Nuneaton and Bedworth Conservation Volunteer Group The Thursday volunteers undertake work across the area.
Peace Festival The Leamington Peace Festival takes place in June every year, but organising meetings take place throughout the preceding 12 months.
Sustainable Rugby Sustainable Rugby meet at Rugby's Town Hall on the first Monday of alternate months.
United Nations Association Through its network of local branches, UNA facilitates grassroots support for the work of the United Nations. In the subregion there are active groups in Warwick district and Stratford upon Avon.
vinvolved Coventry's vinvolved holds weekly volunteering drop-in sessions on Wednesdays between 09.30 and 16.30, at 26 City Arcade, VAC's shop in the city centre.
Warwickshire Wildlife Trust Warwickshire Wildlife Trust organises conservation work, guided walks, presentations, educational programmes and children's activities. Some of the adult, child and family activities at the Trust’s Brandon Marsh Nature Centre include:
This autumn and winter Warwickshire Wildlife Trust are running some free short term and part time activities. The outdoor woodland skill taster sessions and ten day courses are for all black minority and ethnic young people from Coventry, Warwickshire & Solihull area aged 16 - 25, with the sessions mostly taking place at WWT’s Brandon Marsh and Ryton Wood Nature Reserves. The aim is to give young people attending an insight into all aspects of woodland work, with hands on practical activities as well as art media and woodland craft, and also to educate and inspire them to think about wildlife and conservation and offer information about careers in the sector. This is an opportunity for young people to get involved in something different, gain a bronze arts award and John Muir award and generally get creative and have fun participating in art projects, film and volunteering on our nature reserves. Young people will be encouraged to stay on and volunteer after the 10 sessions. The taster sessions will run on Wednesdays: September 08, 15 22 and 29. The courses will run on Thursdays between 07 October and 09 December.
